a perennial, herbaceous land plant having tubers, bulbs, or rhizomes, etc., that lie below the ground surface and are capable of becoming dormant and thus surviving unfavorable seasons —note a geophyte is one of the cryptophytic life-forms of Raunkiaer —see cryptophyte, life-form
